Weather in Charleston

Charleston’s weather is AWESOME! This coastal city enjoys warm Southern temperatures and cool breezes from the many waterways and beaches throughout the area. In addition to warm weather and mild winters, Charleston enjoys the changing of the seasons. Here is what to expect during each season:

Summer:

The summers are full of sunshine and warm weather - perfect for enjoying the local beaches. The average temperature high is between 85 and 89 degrees F. The days are usually cooled off by an afternoon shower which clears away just about as quick as it comes in. Charleston is known for humidity during these summer months, but for the locals, the summer is the best time to be in Charleston. This is the time when the beaches are full of life and the landscapes are as bright and green as you could imagine.

Fall:

Fall moves in slowly as the leaves start to change to vibrant colors of yellow, orange, and red. During the later months the leaves will fall an all trees except for the “live oaks” which get their name because they maintain their leaves all year long. The average high temperatures during a typical day in the Fall will be around 75 degrees F.

Winter:

Winters are usually mild but there are a few weeks where you will want to bundle up and sit by the fire with a hot cup of coco. The first two weeks of January are typically the coldest two weeks in Charleston. The high temperatures during January average in the 50’s but there are a few occasions the days will stay in the upper 40’s.

Spring:

As winter fades away and the warm breezes come back to the coast everything here turns bright green. You will start to see an array of colors as the spring flowers begin to bloom. Spring-time in Charleston has some of the most perfect weather in the world. The days are in the 70’s, the sun shines almost every day, and the rain likes to stay away. Golfers will enjoy perfect golf weather from the beginning of March through the end of May and those looking for entertainment downtown will find plenty of it during the many art and culture festivals held in Charleston during the spring.
